Computer speed is determined by three parts - CPU, Memory and Hard Disk.  The CPU and Memory are the two fastest components of the computer and the hard disk is the slowest.

       When files are stored to the hard disk, they sometimes become fragmented.  This is when files are not stored in contiguous pattern.  A disk defragment program can assist on improving the performace of the hard disk.  Windows comes with its own defragmentor program but other progams can be purchased to perform the same functions.
